The Effects of Climate Change

Our idea is to make a mural of climate change and put it around the school and maybe somewhere public. Students researched the effects of climate change using google and sketched on poster paper various designs. They then determined that using 4 canvas boards 2 showing the direct effect of climate change on wildlife, 2 showing wildlife pre-climate change. They chose contrasting colors to highlight the changes using Tempura paint. The Canvases reflect the darkness of a world where climate change has impacted water levels making it difficult for animals to survive. The use of gray and black for the climate change world is in stark contrast to the more vivid blues and greens utilized in the canvases to reflect a world where the oceans are a full height, lakes, ponds, and streams provide plentiful water for both drinking needs as well as to provide a source of hydration for plants and insects important to both animal and human survival. A brief description describing each set of canvases is also provided. This advisor contacted Medford Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn’s office to set up a zoom meeting to both explain their project and request permission to display the finished canvases. Zoom meeting was completed with both Sophie and Francy attending to describe the project and their hope to have it hung in city hall. Mayor Lungo-Koehn’s office will schedule a period of time for these canvases to hang following their completion and prior to winter break in February.
