OUR BENEFACTORS
CUMMINGS FOUNDATION GRANT
Medford’s Center for Citizenship and Social Responsibility (CCSR) has been awarded a 10-year, $350,000 grant from the Cummings Foundation as part of their $25 Million Grant Program (starting in 2021). The grant supports the mission of The CCSR, which includes developing student leaders who work to make the world a better place by creating projects that benefit both the Medford community and the world. The CCSR is a district-wide after-school program, part of the Medford Public Schools, which guides students in the development and implementation of projects that benefit the community. We are truly grateful for this opportunity.

HOW WE GOT HERE
The CCSR was created from the belief that learning should help students grow not only academically, but also socially, emotionally, and morally. Given the many national and international challenges we continue to witness, we believe schools and community programs must do more than deliver information. They must help young people develop empathy, compassion, leadership, and a sense of responsibility toward others. Too often, students become disconnected when learning feels impersonal, passive, or unrelated to real life. The CCSR was designed to provide a learning environment where students feel safe, connected, valued, and actively engaged in meaningful work that improves their communities. By giving students opportunities to collaborate, serve others, solve real problems, and contribute in positive ways, we help them understand others’ struggles while also recognizing their own ability to make a difference. We believe these experiences help build caring, thoughtful, and empathetic leaders who are better prepared to create a more humane, connected, and peaceful world.
HISTORY
The Center for Citizenship and Social Responsibility (CCSR) was created in 2013. The primary mission of the CCSR is to develop responsible global leaders/entrepreneurs who will be positive contributors to society and will work to combat critical social issues.
By providing project-based learning activities, the CCSR offers a learning experience that enhances: empathy, self-confidence, teamwork, self-esteem, and leadership skills. We believe that incorporating real-life experiences for students to develop and implement projects to help others will positively affect their self-image and understanding of others. Also, The CCSR works with school administration to integrate social-emotional learning, citizenship, resiliency, and social intelligence into the district curriculum and activities.
