The Compost Tumbler
CCSR 5th grade students Nick Berryman and Rhodey Vining worked together to use lunchtime food waste to create nutrient-rich soil with the help of a new compost tumbler. The boys were both very concerned about the amount of food being thrown away by their classmates each lunch period, so they decided to take action. After researching different compost tumblers, they purchased a double-barrelled one by utilizing some available CCSR funds. Throughout the spring Rhodey and Nick fed, turned, and emptied the tumbler many times, which ensured healthy school gardens, as well as slowing down food waste at the Brooks.
