Thanksgiving Food Bags & Holiday Party Decorations

We were interested in ways to make families’ holidays happier and wanted to assist with Thanksgiving Drive at the McGlynn Elementary School. We reached out to the teacher coordinating the drive, Ms. Doherty, and she suggested that initially we make cards to accompany each bag to wish the recipients a happy Thanksgiving day while inviting them to enjoy the food provided. We discussed as a group why some families may have needed additional assistance to celebrate Thanksgiving and the gratitude that this group of students felt in being able to bring in canned goods from home. Ms. Doherty was so pleased with our cards that she asked us to create Thank you cards to show appreciation to many of the local businesses who donated money and gift cards to help fund the food drive. We expressed our gratitude primarily using colored pencils and markers and delivered the cards to Ms. Doherty within two weeks of her request. We also wanted to decorate cards/etc for children to make them happy at the holidays. Our advisor told us that the Medford Family Network was looking for students/children to decorate candy bags for them to give out during their annual holiday party. We discussed it as a group and thought that this would be a nice way to let them know that we were thinking about them.
